What Is Clear Mascara For? Your Ultimate Guide

If you’ve never understood the purpose of clear mascara, join the club.

I was once watching a TikTok video of a makeup artist demonstrating how to use clear mascara, and I remember thinking that this was probably pointless.

I mean, if the mascara isn’t going to volumize my lashes and give me the dramatic flair I’m going for, why should I use it?

You probably asked the same question once or twice, so here’s your answer:

You should use clear mascara because it’s one of the most versatile pieces you can have in your makeup bag!

This tiny bottle that I thought was pointless is now the only item in my makeup routine that I use every day – here’s why!

Why Do You Need a Clear Mascara?

You need a clear mascara simply because it’s a multi-functional product that you can use every day.

Here are different uses for it:

It defines your lashes

Are you going for a no-makeup look? No need to do it while your lashes look all messy

A clear mascara will define them, curl them, and give them a polished look.

It doesn’t stain

When going for a swim, I usually leave the mascara out of my makeup routine. I’m not a huge fan of waterproof mascara and I don’t want to end up with panda eyes, and I’m sure you don’t either!

But that doesn’t mean I leave my lashes undefined – a clear mascara keeps them neat without staining when my face hits the water.

It doubles as a brow gel

You don’t need to get a brow gel if you have clear mascara. With a couple of swipes, you can have that perfect tamed look that you’re aiming for.

It’s the perfect base for colored mascara

If you want to wear a different mascara color every day, you can use clear mascara for that.

Blend it with your favorite eyeshadow shade and swipe it over your lashes—there you have it; your own DIY mascara!

It doubles as a lash primer

Here’s a tip I didn’t know before using clear mascara – the key to having voluminous and lengthy lashes using any mascara is to use a primer beforehand.

If you don’t have a lash primer, just use clear mascara instead.

It sets false lashes

If you’re already wearing false lashes, then you don’t need the additional dramatic flair that a colored mascara adds.

But you still need to comb your falsies with your natural lashes. To do so, use clear mascara. It’ll give you a clean look with no clumps.

My Recommendations for Clear Mascara

Are you convinced yet that you need clear mascara?

If that’s the case, here are my recommendations for the best mascaras on the market:

1. e.l.f Clear Brow & Lash Mascara

e.l.f Clear Brow & Lash Mascara

This brow and lash mascara from e.l.f is my personal favorite for plenty of reasons.

For starters, it’s a 2-in-1 formula that works for both your brows and lashes. It also has two different brushes to give you different finishes.

Besides, it dries quickly, and because the formula is thin, it doesn’t feel heavy on your eyebrows like some mascaras do.

On top of that, it gives a very natural look – no one will believe you have mascara on!

2. Essence Lash & Brow Gel Mascara

The Essence lash and brow gel is the perfect entry clear mascara if you’re still not sure it works for you.

It’s pretty affordable, so you can give it a try without regretting it if you don’t like it.

It has a nice consistency and it’s so easy to apply. However, it may feel sticky on your lashes until it dries down – I didn’t have that issue with the e.l.f clear mascara.

3. Ere Perez Aloe Gel Lash & Brow Mascara

After going through my fair share of clear mascaras and making it part of my daily routine, I’ve decided to reward myself with this one!

The Ere Perez lash and brow mascara costs more than your average clear mascara, but it’s worth every dollar.

It doesn’t only define your lashes, but it also nourishes them and promotes longer, thicker lashes.

The aloe vera in its formula has conditioning properties that will give you naturally radiating lashes!

Final Thoughts

Are you still wondering about the uses of clear mascara? Go get it already!

I’ll be honest; clear mascara may not work for everyone. But I suspect that once you start using it, there’ll be no going back!

It’ll be a part of your daily routine, and you’ll discover a new way to use it every day.
