L’Oréal vs Olay: Which Brand is Best?

L'Oréal vs Olay

Having supple skin with no major issues shouldn’t be an impossible dream. OK, it’s not easy to achieve, but trust me, it has nothing to do with spending thousands of dollars on products.

Your skin shows how your body is doing from the inside. So, if you eat healthy, work out, and cut down on smoking and alcohol, incorporating the right products will give you the skin you’ve always dreamed of.

My L’Oréal vs Olay standoff addresses two popular brands which have been around for decades. So, which one is worth your hard-earned money?

I will help you answer this question based on my personal experience.

Brands Overview

Before I dig into any details, let me introduce you to the two brands.

L’Oréal Paris is a French and multinational brand that was created in 1909, which makes it one of the oldest and largest cosmetics companies.

It’s a parent company to many affordable and high-end brands, including The Body Shop, YSL Beauté, NYX Cosmetics, and IT Cosmetics.

However, it produces many skincare, body care, hair care, hair color, and makeup products under its name.

Olay was founded in 1952 when a chemist wanted to formulate a beauty product for his wife.

He chose the name Oil of Olay as a spin on the word “lanolin” which he used to create a special serum.

This brand offers many medically tested and scientifically proven-to-work skincare and body care products, especially for older adults who deal with wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots.

However, it also offers many products that appeal to a younger audience.

My Favorite Picks

I never stick to one product. Yes, some are my holy grail products, and I consider them a staple in my routine.

However, I always rotate and switch products to allow my skin to benefit from the new formulas that offer solutions for my cosmetic concerns.

In the following section, I will mention some of my favorite products, but this doesn’t mean you should immediately go and buy them.

Some products will work for you, and others won’t. So, check the list of ingredients and see if they actually address your concerns.

Cleaners and Toners

A good skincare routine starts with cleansing the skin and removing all the makeup residue, dust, and debris to create a clean canvas for the other products.

Proper cleansing guarantees you’ll achieve the best results from your nourishing products without having congested pores.

If I have been wearing makeup, I always start with the L’Oreal Paris Clean Artiste Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover, which refreshes the eye area without leaving a greasy residue.

For heavy eye makeup, especially mascara, I switch to the Olay Cleanse Makeup Melting Cleansing Milk, which is perfect for dry skin.

For cleansing, I usually use the Gentle Clean Foaming Face Cleanser for Sensitive Skin from Olay followed by the L’Oreal Paris Revitalift 5% Pure Glycolic Acid Peeling Toner.

It prepares my skin for serums and gently removes the dead skin cells that create a dull and unhealthy look.

L'Oreal Revitalift 3.5% Pure Glycolic Acid Brightening Cleansing Gel with Salicylic Acid

If you suffer from blackheads or active acne, I recommend the Revitalift 3.5% Pure Glycolic Acid Brightening Cleansing Gel with Salicylic Acid twice a week.

It has a non-drying formula, thanks to the aloe vera, and the glycolic and salicylic acids will keep your pores clean.

Serums

L’Oreal Paris offers many serums to address various skin concerns. I alternate between them to ensure my face is receiving a royal spa treatment at home.

I use the Revitalift 1.5% Pure Hyaluronic Acid Face Serum under makeup and before going to bed as it hydrates my skin and keeps it supple.

Use it on damp skin, and you’ll instantly notice that your skin looks plumper. I sometimes swap it for the Regenerist Serum from Olay, which helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

The Revitalift 12% Pure Vitamin C Serum is another favorite, as it brightens my skin and evens out my skin tone, especially if I’ve been skimpy on sunscreen – don’t do that, please!

As we grow older, collagen production slows down, and our skin doesn’t regenerate as fast as it used to.

The Revitalift 0.3% Pure Retinol Night Serum is gentle enough to be used even on sensitive skin to visibly reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging.

I recommend that you alternate between the Vitamin C serum and this one, as they can cause irritation when used at the same time.

To help with my fight against the arms of the clock, hoping to slow down time, I also use the Age Perfect Anti-Aging Midnight Face Serum, which feels more luxurious.

It provides deep hydration and protection against free radicals with a potent dosage of Vitamin E and hyaluronic acid.

If you suffer from acne scars or stubborn spots, I highly recommend the Bright Reveal 12% [Niacinamide + Amino Sulfonic + Ferulic] Dark Spot Serum. It doesn’t clog your pores and will give you a luminous complexion with regular use.

As for Olay, I love the Regenerist Collagen Peptide 24 Serum, which I use before applying my makeup in the morning.

It visibly reduces the look of fine lines and, over time, it helps diminish them.

The Olay AHA + Peptide 24 Resurfacing Serum is perfect for the face and neck, and I use it once or twice a week.

The AHAs gently exfoliate the skin to reveal a young and plump complexion.

Many love the Super Serum 1.0 oz with Niacinamide, Vitamin C, Collagen Peptide, AHA, and Vitamin E, which I also adore.

It’s like an all-in-one solution that targets many issues simultaneously.

Olay also offers the Coconut Oil Serum and Vitamin E Oil Serum, which can be used to seal all your treatments at the end of the routine. Remember that oils go on top of the moisturizer.

Moisturizer

For everyday moisturizing, I use the Collagen Daily Face Moisturizer in the morning and the Revitalift Triple Power Anti-Aging Face Moisturizer at night.

When I’m feeling extra dry, I love using the Hydra-Renewal Face Moisturizer.

My Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream from Olay is always in my makeup bag, as it visibly reduces fine lines and wrinkles.

I never go without using the Crepey Skin Correcting Intensive Treatment on my neck and chest – I recommend you use it after every shower to avoid these annoying necklines.

Sun Protection

Without a good sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful UV rays, none of your products can show a visible effect.

The Sensitive Mineral Sunscreen from Olay blends quickly without leaving a white cast and works for all skin tones.

I also love the primer and sunscreen combo in the Prime & Protect SPF 35 Face Sunscreen.

L'Oreal Paris Sublime Bronze Self Tanning Mist

To get that bronze glow without the risk of sun damage, I recommend the L’Oreal Paris Sublime Bronze Self Tanning Mist, which can be applied to the whole body.

So, Which Brand is Better?

I love both brands, and they offer different products to their target customers, although there are some similarities.

L’Oreal Paris offers a vast range of products including cleansing products, moisturizers, serums, and anti-aging products, in addition to makeup and hair care products.

Their Infallible Up to 24HR Pro-Glow Foundation is a cult favorite, and many makeup artists recommend their Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara.

However, if your main interest is fighting off the visible signs of aging skin, I recommend you check out Olay’s products.

Their Regenerist line is scientifically proven to improve the look of mature skin.

Wrapping Up

As we reach the end of our L’Oreal vs Olay standoff, it seems that there’s no clear winner. Both brands are winners in their target arenas and are always working on improving their formulas.

If you want to build a successful and potent skincare routine, you should try one new product at a time and see how it works for your skin.

You can also work with a professional esthetician to assess your skin’s condition and recommend products that address your concerns.
