If you’ve never heard about La Roche-Posay or Neutrogena, you’ve probably been living under a rock. Both brands are very popular and offer many skincare and body care products that address cosmetic and wellness concerns.
But since most of us aren’t blessed with unlimited budgets (we wish we were though!), you should be careful about choosing products you buy.
Forget about the marketing hype, as nothing speaks better than hands-on experience.
Today, in this detailed La Roche-Posay vs Neutrogena comparison, I will highlight the best products based on my personal experience.

A Quick Overview
L’Oréal, a leading French cosmetics brand, founded La Roche-Posay in 1975. The brand traces its name to the healing thermal spring waters of the La Roche-Posay region in France.
For centuries, locals swore by the spring water for several skin issues, as it’s rich in minerals and antioxidants.
La Roche-Posay Laboratoire Dermatologique was founded to develop scientifically-tested products, using thermal water as the main ingredient to treat multiple skin problems.
These products are recommended by dermatologists and are specifically designed for people with sensitive skin.
Moreover, the brand focuses on sustainability and has supported cancer awareness since the La Roche-Posay Thermal Center opened in 1905.
Although the brand targets multiple segments, it’s specifically appealing to people with sensitive skin, acne, eczema, and other skin concerns.
Neutrogena is an American brand founded in 1930 and sold worldwide. In the very beginning, the brand supplied skincare products to salons that catered to the film industry in Hollywood.
Nevertheless, over the next decades, it has revolutionized skincare and body care concepts by introducing potent yet affordable products that can address many skin problems.
In addition to skincare products, Neutrogena also produces cosmetics and hair care products.
Neutrogena offers products that appeal to various age groups and people with multiple skin concerns.
However, it focuses more on preteens, teens, and younger people who struggle with acne. Yet, you can also shop for anti-aging products.
My Favorite Picks
After this quick history lesson, it’s time for the section you’ve been looking forward to – my favorite picks.
Remember that your experience might be different. So, take these as suggestions for the most popular products, do your research, and you might find other items that suit you better.
Prepping and Cleansing
The first step of any skincare routine is good cleansing. Luckily, La Roche-Posay offers multiple options.

Of course, nothing beats the Micellar Cleansing Water for Sensitive Skin, which gently removes debris without irritating skin.
If you struggle with extra dry and sensitive skin, give the Lipikar AP+ Gentle Foaming Cleansing Oil a try.
It also works on the body and it’s perfect for people with psoriasis and eczema-prone skin.

The Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Face Cleanser is specifically designed with a simple formula for people with sensitive skin.
However, if you have oily skin, I would definitely recommend the Purifying Foaming Gel Cleanser.

Acne is an annoying problem, but the Oil-Free Facial Cleanser with Salicylic Acid from Neutrogena gently removes the excess oil and dead skin buildup to remove the blackheads and help with persistent acne. I always like to end my cleansing routine with the Alcohol-Free Gentle Daily Fragrance-Free Face Toner. It restores balance to my face and doesn’t dry the skin.
Serums
I love serums as they can be incorporated into your skincare routine to address many skincare issues. I like to switch serums to access all their benefits every day of the week.
My La Roche-Posay’s favorites are the Hyalu B5 Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum for hydration, the Pure Vitamin C Face Serum for uneven texture and dull skin, and the Pure Retinol Face Serum for sun damage and anti-aging.

Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost + Niacinamide Serum is the perfect solution if you have oily skin that feels dry as it contains hyaluronic acid and niacinamide.
For people with mature skin, the Rapid Firming Collagen Triple Lift Face Serum provides a lifting effect and gives the skin a natural bounce. I also love the Retinol Face Oil because it’s gentle and doesn’t dry my skin when used regularly.
Moisturizer
I like to keep my daily skincare routine simple, but I switch products depending on the season and my skin condition.
When I’m feeling extra dry, I always go for the Cicaplast Balm B5 from La Roche-Posay. It’s so versatile that you can use it on any body part.

I specifically love using it after chemical peels as it helps rebuild my skin barrier because it contains panthenol and shea butter.
For my eyes, I use the Pigmentclar Dark Circles Eye Cream with Caffeine, which instantly depuffs the eyes and makes them look more awake.
It also reduces the look of dark circles. Finally, I never go to bed without my Cicaplast Lip Balm B5, which prevents cracked lips in the driest and coldest weather.
For daily moisturizing, I use the Hydro Boost Water Cream Face Moisturizer, as it contains lipids to smooth the look of fine lines and hyaluronic acid for extra hydration.
It also absorbs fast and works under makeup.

I sometimes just add a pop of color using the Neutrogena MoistureShine Lip Soother Gloss with SPF 20, which also provides sun protection.
The Triple Age Repair Anti-Aging Night Cream with Vitamin C is another favorite.
It evens out the skin tone and firms the skin when used at night. It’s not Botox in a box, but it keeps my skin taut and looking healthy.
Sunblock and Body Care
The Anthelios line from La Roche-Posay is formulated with broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection in addition to antioxidants to protect the skin from free radicals.
My favorite choice is the Anthelios Ultra-Light Sunscreen Spray Lotion SPF 60, which can be applied in seconds to the whole body. It can also be used over makeup and it’s water-resistant.

Another cool choice is the Anthelios Tinted Sunscreen SPF 40+, which I usually use as a BB cream when I don’t feel like wearing makeup. It’s a mineral sunscreen for those with sensitive skin.
Neutrogena’s Beach Defense Spray Sunscreen with Broad Spectrum SPF 70 is a must-have in my beach bag. It’s water-resistant and absorbs fast.
For daily application, I use the Ultra Sheer Moisturizing Face Serum with Vitamin E & SPF 60, which hydrates my skin while providing excellent sun protection.

If you suffer from body acne, I recommend Neutrogena’s Body Clear Oil-Free Acne Body Scrub with the Body Clear Acne Treatment Body Wash with 2% Salicylic Acid twice a week.
I usually use the Lipikar Urea 10% Roughness Smoothing Body Lotion from La Roche-Posay to moisturize my body after a shower, as the urea keeps dry skin at bay and helps retain moisture.
Nourishing your hair is part of your beauty routine, so I use the Tea Tree Oil Conditioner from Neutrogena to soothe my dry and itchy scalp.
People with psoriasis will greatly benefit from the T/Gel Anti-Dandruff Shampoo for Psoriasis and Seborrheic Dermatitis as it helps soften flaky skin and keep the scalp clean.
Which Brand is Best for Me?
There’s no doubt that both brands have established their status as successful and trustworthy brands, but people’s experiences differ.
I would recommend that you compare products and give them time to work to see if you like them. Remember that it takes two to three months, sometimes more, to see a change in your skin.
However, generally speaking, La Roche-Posay is my go-to brand to deal with sensitivity-related issues like rosacea and eczema.
Their thermal water is a must-have, regardless of your age or skin type. It literally goes with and under any skincare product, and your complexion will appreciate it.
On the other hand, I would always recommend Neutrogena products if you’re struggling with acne.
They’ve gone a long way in addressing this annoying issue, and if you’ve had acne you know how it can take a toll on your mental and physical well-being.
I also love their lightweight moisturizers because they take no time to absorb. Finally, their beach-related products are a must-have for me.
Wrapping Up
Choosing the best brand for your skincare and body care routine is a matter of trial and error. You need to do your homework and see which products work for you.
Remember that skincare products don’t promise magic in a bottle, but my La Roche-Posay vs Neutrogena standoff shows that these two brands are reliable enough to address most of your concerns.
The next step is on you. Healthy skin isn’t about using too many products. It’s about establishing and committing to a good routine for your skin concerns.
